The forces are tremendous; they are everywhere: social media, who society highlights as heroes and stars, how success is defined by many…and so much more.  Be an influencer. Have a gazillion friends or followers in social media. Declare yourself an “expert.” Seek the spotlight. Be a star. All the forces tell us to “make a splash.”

I suggest we opt for being the pebble. Be the thing that quietly creates ripples that reach the shore. Don’t make a splash that draws attention but instead have an effect all around you.  Don’t be the splash that throws the toy boat out of the tub but create the ripple that moves the boat along. Don’t create a commotion; make a difference that extends beyond you.
