Being “level” is not always the best way to accomplish things, achieve happiness, deal with challenges and so on … because life’s “playing field” is rarely level. Consider the benefits of not being level all the time.
You See Things From a Different Angle, Literally
The world looks different from different angles; problems look different from different angles. Look at all things from different angles.
I often encourage photography students to photograph from the perspective of their children. Or suggest writers find a different angle, like this scene from Dead Poet’s Society. When standing atop the desk, the students’ visions of the world were not “level.”
When you get “off level,” you are looking upward or downward differently. Look at all of life from different angles and perspectives to unleash your creative potential. Also consider the dog’s cocked head view, like the old RCA dog tilting its head to “his master’s voice.” Even changing your angle that way will improve your “hearing.”
Get off level and see all things from different perspectives.
You Feel The Rush and Excitement of Change
Roller coasters wouldn’t be much fun if they only went straight and level. Come to think of it, a lot of the things people deem as exciting or as providing an adrenalin rush involve getting “off plane” (unlevel), whether figuratively or literally. The thrill of discovery, finding solutions, defeating challenges, finding love (“head over heels” is definitely not level!) … involve being off of level.
Don’t be afraid of getting off of level. Seek it!
You Accept Imperfections…Life Isn’t Perfect!
It would be a safe bet to place monies against the chance of an entire day being on an even keel. Maybe even an hour! If you accept and enjoy the reality that things are rarely going to stay on level for much time, you are more likely to be able to adapt to the changes of terrain, conditions, moods, etc. that reveal the perfect beauty of life’s perfections. Hmmm, who would think that “perfection” is level?
Leave “level” to walls and pool tables!
Besides, it keeps everyone else on their toes when you’re “half a bubble off.” Enjoy being you!(
