2023 was a doozy, wasn’t it? 2024 portends to be doozier! Who knows what will come of things? No one.

So listen to life….hear it, smell it, touch it, taste it and see it…one moment at a time.

C. S. Lewis wrote in The Screwtape Letters, “The man can neither make, nor retain, one moment of time; it all comes to him by pure gift.” (I could not sufficiently provide context in this space, so if you are unfamiliar with this masterpiece book, try this or this to start. The quote is not bumper sticker philosophy but involves the book’s explanation of how to separate mankind from God.)

Whatever is going on in the moment, make the most of it through words and actions, thoughts and reflections, truth and commitment. Far easier said than done, to be sure, but 2024 will be a great year to focus on the moments instead of dwelling on the past and future, a practice that could looking through Alice’s looking glass seem sensible.

2024: a year to experience the moments while taking your eyes and emotions away from an uncontrollable and unpredictable future. The peace, love, beauty, truth, tranquility that you seek just might be found there.

Starting on January 1, I will begin another photo-of-the-day project, titled “Just a Moment.” This will be my third such project (Still…Life 2015 and A Beauty-Full Life 2019). As bumpy as 2023 was, and 2024 portends to be, this effort will (hopefully) encourage viewers and readers to appreciate and live more in the moment, and look ahead less to the future. You can receive updates on this project by subscribing at my Substack site.  Thank you.)
